I believe all have some level of addiction. It’s a normal process that our brain somehow develops over time, a reliance, a habit… so I like to constantly challenge these addictions by cutting those products out of my normal day to day. I don’t think there should be absolute constants in our lives, we need variety and this certainly applies to the food and drink we consume.
If you take a look at nature things are seasonal. Fish have certain route they take, meaning they are only found in some waters and not others. Fruit will only ripen naturally a few months a year, vegetables and herbs have their own times of year that they grow and thrive.
When most of us think of the word “addiction”, we easily associate the term with drugs and alcohol. 25 years of being a wellness professional, I have come to understand and have recognise food addiction to be the most difficult for patients to overcome. This is due to the simple fact that food is readily available at every corner shop and very affordable compare to drugs and alcohol.
So I suggest to break these every day addictions we must do this regularly through the year in short spurts, I find five weeks enough to beat the habits we have fallen into and overcome our reliance on particular types of food and drink.
I’m not for one minute suggesting to change our lifestyle and consumption FOREVER, that would be silly unless you had a serious allergy to this specific product, (for example, in cases of hay fever, chronic inflammatory gut diseases).
So have a good look at your routine and lifestyle what are you have too much of? What are you consuming all year round, day in day out? Do you have a 3pm chocolate or sugar craving that you give into most days? Can you simple NOT function without your morning coffee? Must you have dessert, or even just a bowl of icecream after dinner each night? Can you not leave the service station without a can of coke and packet of chips when you pay for your fuel? What food have you come to rely on, what’s become more of a habit, rather than a treat?
Pick your 5 weeks and eliminate or reduce and see how you feel at the end of this time. We are running a 5 Week Wellness Challenge this September, starting on the 10th. You may like to join us for the support of doing this in a group, and professional guidance. Give us a call to find out more, or click here.
I will tell you now that you will feel better, and surprisingly you may feel a big difference in many symptoms that you are not even relating to these products. Have fun with it, experiment and observe. After all it’s your health and well-being that you will be improving.
