Chiropractic and Sport
Sports chiropractic is a rapidly growing sub-speciality of chiropractic within Australia and abroad. Chiropractors have been a part of Olympic medical teams since the 2012 London Olympics, receiving such positive feedback that Rio and Tokyo (postponed) had no choice but to bring chiropractors along. Athletes such as Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps were known to receive regular chiropractic care to ensure optimal performance.
Pain affects athletic performance as the nervous system doesn’t want to send ‘full power’ to the painful area to save causing further damage. This is why we limp and feel weakness in our leg with a painful knee, the pain limits the maximal strength output available. Sub-maximal strength = sub-maximal results.
Although known as back and neck pain specialists, chiropractors also receive extensive training in the management of conditions of the extremities (eg. shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle).
As the chiropractic team at Thrive, we focus on the prevention of injuries and the maintenance of performance through various treatment approaches. Treatment could include: manipulation, mobilisation, massage, stretching, specific exercises, electrotherapy, strapping and bracing and other related approaches. We also have remedial massage therapists, exercise physiology, physiotherapy, Pilates, yoga and nutritionists all in the one clinic to ensure you receive optimal care from experienced practitioners in their field.
